Broadsword Wang Wu (1844 - 1900) was a renowned swordsman in the martial arts world of Beijing. Originally named Wang Zhengyi, Wang Wu was a man of the Hui minority with his ancestral home in Cangzhou of Heibei. He was the fifth child of the family and highly skilled in swordsmanship. Meanwhile, he was a man of moral excellence. So, he was widely honored as “Broadsword Wang Wu”. In his lifetime, Wang Zhengyi had a strong sense of justice and was always ready to help others. He gave strong support to the reform of the late Qing Dynasty and did his bid in helping the people at the time of national crisis. He was therefore respected by all as a great swordsman. He was also ranked by ordinary people as one of the top ten martial arts masters of the late Qing Dynasty along with big names like Swallow Li San, Huo Yuanjia, Huang Feihong etc. |
