Anlan Suspension Bridge, also named "Husband-and-Wife Bridge", is an ancient suspension bridge well known at home and abroad. It locates at the Fish Mouth water diversion bank on the Dujiangyan Dam, bestriding the inner and outer rivers with a length of 500 meters. The bridge today has been moved to the lowered reaches over 100m away from the original one, with the bamboo structure changed into steel and the timber bridge piers replaced by concrete piles. Rope bridges appeared early in western Sichuan Province, and the specific construction time of the Anlan Suspension Bridge is nowhere to proof. However, according to records, the bridge was built no later than the Dujiangyan Dam. The word "Zuo" means bamboo rope, which is the major building material for ancient suspension bridges in western Sichuan. Therefore, the bridge is also called the Bamboo Bridge, Rope Bridge or the Bamboo Vine Bridge. |
