Spring Dawns at Su Causeway

next

Popularly known as Su Gong Causeway, Su Causeway is in the southwest of West Lake, starting from Viewing Fish at Flower Harbor in the south and connecting Lotus in the Breeze at Crooked Courtyard in the north. It is on top of the list of Ten Scenes of West Lake. It is 2.8 km in length, and was built with alternating layers of lake silt and grasses when Su Dongpo was the government official of Hangzhou and started the project of dredging the lake. On the causeway there are six bridges: Yingbo, Suolan, Wangshan, Yati, Dongpu, and Kuahong, all simple and beautiful. The beauty of Su Causeway lies not only in the fact that it runs through the beautiful lake, but also in the elegant camphor trees and other plants along the causeway. The causeway is thus covered with green all the year round. Particularly in spring the blooming peach flowers and the sprouting brigs burst forth full of life. These, together with the pleasantly warm spring breeze, elicit a sense of relaxation and happiness.
