The temple was built to honour Yue Fei, a national hero of the Southern Song period more than 800 years ago. The temple and Yue Fei's tomb next to it are key cultural relics under state protection visited by every tourist. Yue Fei (1103-1142) was a famous general who stood for fighting and repulsing the Kin invaders. He was framed and murdered by traitors in the Song court.
