Commonly known as the Summer Palace in Lhasa, Norbulingka is situated at the western suburbs of Lhasa and is the summer residence of Dalai Lamas. The elegant garden was built during the reign of the 7th Dalai Lama in the middle 18th century and became the location of governmental offices and religious activities. The entire garden occupies a land of 46 hectares built with over 370 rooms of different sizes. Reputed as "the Garden within Garden", it is a good place for pilgrimage, holidays and appreciation of Tibetan palace architectures. |
