Hakka Folk Customs

Yongding is a place characterized by clear waters and green hills, attracting lots of outstanding personalities. The Hakka culture, retaining the richness of the Central Plains culture, has a long history here. Customs like the idolatrous procession in Hukeng, "April 8th Celebrations" in Chendong, "welcoming the spring ox" in Gaobei, "ancestral worshipping rituals attended by newly married men" in Kanshi and "reenacting ancient ceremonies" in Fushi have strong local flavors, fascinating and intriguing. In addition, folk songs, countryside shifan music, drums and gongs performances, puppet shows and other entertainment activities are popular in rural and urban areas of Yongding. These folk customs with strong rustic styles are greatly favored by local people.
